A broader look at Greenpeace Green Electronics bad guys Microsoft, HP and Apple.

A number of Vanno users have submitted stories about the quarterly Greenpeace Guide to Greener Electronics - one of the most widely cited sources on how well known consumer electronics (CE) companies are recycling, reducing toxic materials and reducing their carbon footprints.

It’s revealing to compare the Greenpeace rankings to our Reputation Index.   In most cases, our users agree with Greenpeace about CE company reputations for environmental responsibility.  They’re completely on board, for example, with one of Greenpeace’s more controversial calls – putting Apple near the bottom.   But they don’t agree with the placement of Microsoft and HP at the bottom. Finding interesting people at Vanno

One of the things that has been fun at Vanno is to virtually meet our new users.  For instance, take a look at pinkuff and kjripp.  Both are Experienced Influencers who have been blogging on Social Media, Corporate Reputation, and related topics for quite some time.  Checkout their blogs: pinkuff and kjripp

Do any other Vanno Influencers have a blog? Let me know in the comments.  I would love to see what other Influencers are saying on their blog.

Tesla, GM and a National CTO

Here’s a puzzler, particularly for those who instinctively put faith in the inspiration and innovation of the entrepreneur.  On Vanno, Tesla – the highly touted Silicon Valley electric car startup –  ranks near the bottom, and GM – the poster child for all that’s wrong with the automobile industry - near the top of the 120 or so automobile companies about which our users have written, voted and commented.

This surprised me at first, but as I read our user’s stories and comments, and watched voting patterns, I came to see the debate as an exemplary skirmish in a much larger war.   It’s the battle between people who think that our future – as a nation and a planet – depends on change driven by the introduction of revolutionary new technologies or on the evolutionary improvement of our existing infrastructure.

Vanno is open to the public!

Today, November 13th, 2008, we’re opening Vanno to the general public.     We think it’s particularly apropos to do so at the present time, given the obvious need for more broad insight into, and scrutiny of, the many companies that affect our lives. Continue reading ‘Vanno is open to the public!’

Crowdsourcing done right

Rafe Needleman, in a recent review of Vanno, calls us a “crowdsourced Better Business Bureau 2.0″.   The Better Business Bureau part is pretty clear, but how exactly does crowdsourcing apply to what we’re doing?
